Antonio - Legend
|
He sometimes comes in for some stick from the retards on here but I think his contribution over the years is worthy of legend status - maybe not a Dicks or Di Canio but surely ahead of Carlton Cole. Consider how many managers he's played under, how many different styles of play and how many positions he's had to play in. Notwithstanding this he still gives everything in a game and opposing defences a torrid time. A couple of years ago he was prone to repetitive hamstring injuries and he took advice from nutritionalists, changed his diet and sort of solved the problem. He can still turn on the after burners when needed, can work in the tightest of spaces and has a decent goal scoring record. I hope he gets the recognition he deserves when he finally hangs up his boots.

And a couple of months ago he was slagging off the manager, tactics and team mates whilst whoaring himself out for a move whilst not bothering on the pitch.

In terms of value for money he's been a great signing and has been a great player for us over the years, capable of the sublime and the ridiculous.

Reminds me of Carlton. For all his faults Antonio is a West Ham treasure. As with CFC, the truth is that if he was 20% better and more reliable in front of goal he’d be playing for someone better than us. He’s given me some brilliant memories and I’ll miss him when he’s gone.

When he’s fit and inform then he’s a struggle for any centre back around.
Shame he ended up playing for Jamaica, around the 2018 World Cup he was unlucky not to be recognised by England.

Antonio is slightly past his peak now but still a valuable member of the squad.
As others have said he is such a handful for defenders because he’s so unorthodox and there is no forward like him really.
It’s a shame Southgate didn’t pick him for England because if he was in the Euro squad 2 years ago and was brought on as sub against Italy in the final the Italians would have struggled containing him. Instead we got Dominic Calvert Lewin on.

Re: Antonio - Legend

When he wasn't being picked regularly he acted like a prick, didn't put a lot of effort in and was publicly critical.
The main problem with Antonio is that at a better run club he would have been a regular squad member and not a regular starter. To be fair to him that's not his fault.
But is he a legend? No.
Is he better than Carlton? Yes obviously. Carlton is also not a legend.

Over the past few seasons there's been a direct link between Antonio being on form and confident and us playing well and being attractive to watch.
He's frustrating at times, but when he's in the mood he is an absolute nightmare for opposition defenders.
Fingers crossed he's got another couple of seasons left in him at the top level.

At the moment he’s in the list of players below the legends, but score a few goals to keep us up, and then in the semis/final then he’ll be close.
Shame he didn’t move to be a striker earlier. His form over the last few weeks has been really good

Spot on Northbank and Branded, maybe not an up there with our absolute legends but pretty close at his best. Considering how he was messed about having to play as a defender for much of his time with us he's done brilliantly. Never the most skilled player he had to make up for it with muscle, pace and strength, he's saved us on many occasons, withoutr his goals this season we'd probably be down, much prefer him to some poncey foreigh strikers like Haller who is more skilled but doesn't give a toss for the club or fans

on his day he is priceless, he just does not have so many of those days
Cub legend? No, I don't think so. As a goal scorer Di Canio would be a legend, Cottee would be a legend and he's not close to that. I think he's like an attacking version of Repka, someone we will look back on very fondly and a great player but NOT as a "Legend".

Fucking love the guy.
(100% did not spend "much of his time as a defender" though. Maybe 2 games tops)

Utterly despised by many on here for some reason, very often not in a posters starting eleven.
Not sure if he's legend status, but not far behind, been a very successful signing and clearly a different level to old Carlton. He's not without his faults of course, first touch can be awful for starters. Hopefully he's here for another year as he's been looking like his old self of late.

He's scored 3 winning goals against Tottenham for that alone he deserves legendary status .
